Mrs. Celestine K. Hall

January 18, 1931 ~ December 12, 2018 (age 87)

Mrs. Celestine K. Hall, age 87, of Mobile, Alabama, peacefully departed this earthly life for her heavenly home on Dec 12, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 18, 1931, she lived a full, happy and faithful devoted Christian life.

Celestine graduated from Bethesda Beauty College, earning a cosmetology degree before becoming one of the few female African-American business owners in Mobile, Alabama in the 1950’s and 60’s. As the owner and operator of the Celestine Knox Salon she had an incredible entrepreneurial spirit that predated her time. Her business motto, “Second to None,” described her approach to business and life. Mrs. Hall was an entrepreneur with a stellar business acumen that was only matched by her tenacious work ethic. She also co-founded and co-owned the extremely successful Fancy Dry Cleaners with Levy H. Knox Sr. She helped to provide career opportunities for many local employees as an owner and supervisor, but also led by example while performing the hands-on duties in every aspect of her companies.

Mother Hall, as she was so affectionately known, was a true Mother in Zion as the Mother of Living Word Christian Center and a Matriarch in the Body of Christ. She worked alongside her son, Bishop Levy H. Knox the founding pastor of Living Word Christian Center, for more than 35 years. She was the founding director of LWCC Ushers and Love Greeters, and developed the Special Events Catering and Outreach Ministry. She also founded the Thanksgiving Outreach Ministry, which fed dozens of homeless members of the community each year. She was an integral part of the founding of the LWCC Kingdom Academy and the Legacy Childlife Development Center Food Services Program. Mother Hall was a strong woman of prayer and faith in her Lord Jesus Christ, and she served the Lord fervently. She always wanted to empower anyone she met, and she acted as a mentor to all her spiritual sons and daughters in the Kingdom. Mother Hall’s legacy lives on through the thousands of people she’s impacted during her 87 glorious years here on earth. She was an extraordinary wonder of God!

Mother Hall was preceded in death by her husband Thomas F. Hall; parents Belle and Clarence Conaway; siblings, Clarence, Josephine, Doris and Fred Conaway, and former late husband Levy H. Knox Sr.

She is remembered with love by her children, devoted son, Dr. Levy H. Knox (Delia), wonderful daughters, Addie (Michael) Vaughn, and Toni (Randy) Watkins; her Grandchildren, Levy (Afrah) Seals, Levetta (Michael) Harris, Michael (Latasha) Vaughn, Mark Vaughn, Matthew Vaughn, Russell (Narisha) Pears III., Phillip Pears, Victoria Pears; as well as her Great Grandchildren, MaLaysha Seals, Levy Seals, Ryan Bush, Michael Thomas Vaughn, Mason Charles Vaughn, Aalyiah and Kherington Pears, Ava Victoria Taylor, Russell Pears IV.

Her loving and generous spirit will be deeply missed, but will forever live in the hearts of all those who knew her. She is a gift of God to us all. Mother Celestine K. Hall, an extraordinary woman of God. Her legacy of unconditional love shall continue through each of us as we impart her mantra into every walk of our own lives and remember to “NEVER, NEVER, NEVER GIVE UP!!”
